ABOUT

Vet Marketing Café is a membership site dedicated exclusively to supporting veterinary teams in their practice marketing efforts.

VMC was inspired by our years of experience working in marketing, and specifically for animal health. We learned quickly that veterinary professionals need a bit (okay, a lot) of help creating and managing marketing programs that resonate with both current and potential clients to drive results. Here’s why:

The struggle is real.

They don't teach you this stuff in school.

Most veterinary programs don't teach you how to market your practice, and it's a complex topic that's not easy to learn on your own.

Even if they did, it might not be your thing.

What’s fun for some is drudgery for others. You're in the business of caring for companion animals, not collecting followers.

Creating great content takes time.
Lots of it.

Time is not something veterinary teams have to spare. When your phone is ringing off the hook and you have a full waiting room, writing a blog or crafting a social media post is the last thing on your mind.

Knowing your audience isn't the same as connecting with your audience.

Veterinary content can sometimes come off as preachy, lack new information, share too much information (e.g., surgery pics), or just be plain boring. Don't believe us? That's okay. We’ve screenshot the evidence.

The solution is clear.

It’s our pleasure to serve you fresh, ready-made, and easily accessible content that can be downloaded and shared on your platforms in about the time it takes a dog to eat dinner. How are we able to do this?

  • They did teach us this stuff in school.

Plus, we’ve continued to expand our knowledge as innovative digital tools become available and new marketing channels come online.

  • We're passionate about it.

We like what we do – a lot – especially when it helps veterinary teams engage with their clients both inside and outside of the practice.

  • Creating content is our full-time job.

Our sole focus is on creating content that educates, informs, engages and entertains. All day, every day. And like you, we work weekends.

  • We know your audience. We are your audience.

We also might be slightly obsessed with our pets, so when it comes to developing content clients would like to see, we think like the clients we are.

Back of House

Deb Rock

co-Founder
director of strategic content

I fell in love with the veterinary field ten years ago while working as a marketing manager for a small corporate acquisition group. My absolute favorite part of the job was interacting with the teams at the hospitals. Their passion was infectious — in a good way, of course! Helping them grow their practices and care for as many animals as possible was the ultimate job satisfaction. After a brief stint in human medicine, I came running back to the field that has my heart. Veterinary professionals are among the best people on the planet and I look forward to helping as many of you as possible with all things marketing. We’re just getting started!

CO-Founder
Director of creative content

As a child, I was terrified of dogs. Then, much to my dismay, my best friend’s family adopted a yellow lab puppy. Needless to say, my fear quickly faded away. Years later and on a fateful trip to a Petsmart rescue event, my family brought home a good boy of our own. Now, as a mom to two cats, I think being a pet parent is one of the best parts of life. After working for a dog treat company, a cancer nonprofit, legal practices, and more, I’m excited to dedicate my time and efforts to creating content that supports veterinary teams in their tireless efforts to care for our beloved pets.

Pepper

canine content specialist very good girl

Pepper joined our family two years ago after being rescued from a kill shelter in the south. She’s a big foodie who will let you know with incredible accuracy when it’s time to eat. She attacks toys like they are food, so they don’t survive long. She loves to walk, but is scared to have her harness put on. She only barks when feeling pressured to do so by other dogs in the neighborhood. Her large tail is always thumping for family and friends of all species.

Maple

feline content specialist, very good girl

Maple spent her early life on the streets, where she was visibly malnourished and in constant danger. Fatefully, a vet tech found her hiding in a shed and brought her to the clinic to receive life-saving care. After a few months, Maple was healthy and ready for a home. Now she lives a charmed life, watching the world from her tower by the window, and getting lots of treats, chin scratches and lap time. She is quite photogenic, but not the best at posing.

Fred

feline content specialist, KIND OF good boy

When Fred was rescued from the streets, he was too weak to stand, had a high fever, and had lost his ear fur due to frostbite. He was nursed back to health by an amazing veterinary team and his foster family. Now he is experiencing every joy of being an indoor cat. He is a very big fan of wet food, wand toys, shredded cheese and window blinds. He also loves to headbutt his sister and co-worker, Maple, who is not totally sold on him yet. She’ll get there.

Our Inspiration

Rusty Fred Rock (2009-2021)

Rusty filled our home with love and happiness for 12 years. He had a youthful “puppy” exuberance that never faded with age. Some of his favorite activities included nighttime walks, begging for pizza crust, playing with his football or ‘ropey,’ and napping in any room, as long as one of his humans was also in there. As you can see in the picture, he also enjoyed digging quite a bit. Flowers and sidewalk lighting were not an option at our house.

In April 2021, Rusty suddenly stopped eating and his stomach appeared bloated. After a week of watching for improvement that didn’t come, we brought him to one of his favorite places: the vet! A few appointments and hard decisions later, Rusty underwent a splenectomy for a suspected hemangiosarcoma. His spleen was removed,  but the bleeding continued. His veterinary care team worked for 4.5 hours to save his life, even using the blood he was losing to transfuse him during surgery (It worked!). Unfortunately, they discovered the source of the bleeding was cancer that had metastasized to his liver and it could not be stopped. We had to say goodbye.

The days and weeks that followed found us overwhelmed with grief, a feeling that anyone who has lost a pet knows all too well. But, we were able to find comfort in the knowledge that Rusty’s last moments were with a team of compassionate professionals who truly did everything they could to give us more time with our boy. We’re forever grateful and want to give back to the field that gives to all of us every day. With the Veterinary Marketing Café, we will work to do everything we can to support superhero veterinary teams — and honor Rusty’s legacy.
